Interpersonal Perspective on Personality Disorders

4 hours Continuing Education Credit

Location: Online Zoom Webinar
*Directions will be sent post registration from an email titled “COAP Workshop”

Workshop Overview:  Personality Disorders are known to be challenging to diagnose and treat, and the DSM provides little useful guidance regarding the etiology of these disorders. However, this cluster of disorders can be easily understood through an Interpersonal lens, which provides clarity regarding the development of characterological problems, as well as their diagnosis and treatment. During this presentation, attendees will learn a simple, attachment-based strategy for better understanding and diagnosing Personality Disorders based upon Bowlby’s research. Additionally, attendees will learn strategies for working with individuals afflicted with characterological dysfunction and helping to encourage their motivation to engage in treatment.

Learning Objectives:  By the end of this course, participants will have learned about:
  • Developmental Love and Learning, Attachment and the formation of characterological disorder.
  • Interpersonal diagnostic model for characterological disorder
  • Partial forfeiture of reality as a useful means for understanding personality disorder
  • Using yourself as a diagnostic tool for personality disorder
  • Understanding the differing wants and needs generated by characterological dysfunction
  • Strategies for evaluating and treating individuals with personality disorder
