Category: COAP
Presented by Dr. Robyn Migliorini Workshop Overview: Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental syndrome characterized by impaired executive functioning – the self-management system of the brain. Once considered a childhood condition, we now understand that ADHD has pervasive and often lifelong impacts on thinking, emotions, and behavior. For adults with ADHD, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT-ADHD) has emerged as an evidence-based treatment designed to improve coping and reduce functional impairment. This workshop will provide mental health clinicians with an overview of CBT-ADHD, from its theoretical underpinnings to its practical application. First, Dr. Migliorini will demonstrate a cognitive-behavioral case conceptualization process tailored for adult ADHD. This framework will then be used to understand the cognitive distortions and maladaptive behavioral patterns associated with this condition. Specific CBT-ADHD intervention techniques will be introduced and modeled. Finally, Dr. Migliorini will discuss some of the challenges executive dysfunction can pose for the therapeutic process and describe best practices for managing these challenges in treatment.
